Confronting The Roots of Anti-Black Racism in Society/ Medicine with Drs. Akwasi Owusu-Bempah, Daniel Z. Buchman and Roberta K. Timothy

EDI Grand Rounds - June 18, 2021

Drs. Akwasi Owusu-Bempah, Daniel Buchman, and Roberta Timothy discuss the intersections of race, crime and criminal justice, with a particular focus on the area of policing. The session takes a deep dive into the roots of racial issues that affect health care delivery. The session will be moderated by Dr. Hance Clarke. They explore and learn about the social determinants of health that have been thrust to the forefront in 2020. The COVID-19 pandemic and pictures of police violence have highlighted the issues that disproportionately affect racialized and ethnic minority groups. Worldwide protests have raised awareness globally of deep-rooted long-standing issues regarding systemic racism, including inequalities in health care.
