The Department of Anesthesia at the University of Toronto is the largest Anesthesia program in Canada and ranks among the best in North America for Research, Education and Clinical Care. The scope of research activity in the Department of Anesthesia is very broad, encompassing the entire spectrum from basic science to clinical trials and from curiosity-driven mechanisms to applied studies.
We are proud of the skills and accomplishments of our faculty and trainees, who continue to generate progressive annual increases in the amount of research funding and in the number and impact of peer-reviewed publications.
We have six affiliated hospitals, five research institutes, an active fellowship program, and the only Anesthesia residency position in Canada for the Clinician Investigator Program. With all these resources, we have unparalleled opportunities for faculty and trainees to do research in a supportive and collaborative environment.
Our goal is to be a world leader in the generation and dissemination of new knowledge related to anesthesia; that is: care for patients before, during or after surgery in the Intensive Care Unit, and those with acute or chronic pain.
