Case 3 Suggestion

This patient is in very active labour. Chances are (although there is no guarantee!) that she will deliver within 1 to 2 hours. Whether or not to use a PCEA device will depend on the availability and cost since it is unlikely that she will actually be able to “control” anything. If PCEA is chosen, the same settings as the patient above would be suitable. The patient will likely need more frequent checking of labour progress and should definitely have a cervical examination before a clinician topup is given.
